What we try to do…

“Live At The Institute” is a series of monthly concerts presented by James Partridge & Tony Winn, featuring mainly “acoustic” artists (but not genre-specific) appealing to a wide range of tastes. Essentially we book people that write their own songs in a way that pleases us and that we think will please other people.

Our aim is to book one mainline touring act or an exceptional local act, one up-and-coming act and one “unknown” for each evening with the emphasis on professionalism and relaxed entertainment. However we sometimes end up with three exceptional ‘unknowns’, and those are the nights that feel particularly special.

So although you may not recognise some of the names from the mass media, these folks are hand-picked by James & Tony, and you can take our word for the quality of the artists we will be presenting.

There is no bar at The Institute so we invite you to bring your own refreshments and glasses. We will provide the venue, atmosphere, music, table and chairs (and toilets) for a modest entry fee.

It should be noted that a large number of the photographs on this website were taken by Matthew Lynes, our photographer-sort-of-in-residence. Whilst he specialises in sports photography, Matthew is equally comfortable with other ‘live’ settings, as is evidenced in his Institute shots. www.matthewlynes.com
